The Laws of Baetyl
"I accept you into my pack," said The Guardian.
"But here, you are on my lands,
and you will follow my rules."

These are the written "laws" of Baetyl to ensure we continue to maintain the atmosphere we know and love.

Feedback is always welcome! All we ask is that you be polite and respectful, and we love it especially when solutions are suggested along with a problem. The Angelocracy (Administration) is trying to make sure everyone has a pleasant chatting experience, and the decisions we make are always made with the users' best interest in mind.

Please note that our users vote and have an official say in the making of rules. You can be an active participant in our decisions. Your feedback weighs heavily on our decisions and we need that feedback in order to know what you want and how you feel about things.

Any ban lengths mentioned in the below sections are non-negotiable. Each incident that falls under those categories are all treated the same, no matter how simple or extravagant the incident may have been.

These rules are subject to change - you will receive updates on our Forums and Chat. Please note that it is your responsibility to check for updates.

Rules version: v2.0.0
Last change made January 12th, 2023
Terms of Use: By using this website you agree to the terms of service described in this document.

The Core Principles of Baetyl
These are our policies and guidelines for the community that didn't quite make it into the rules.

1 | 16+ Community
We strongly enforce a community that is sixteen or older. If caught under sixteen years of age, you will be permanently banned from Baetyl. You are welcome to appeal through a problem ticket once you're of age! Please note that age boosting in any form will result in a permanent ban - especially if it is to access our mature rooms, though we have been known to be more forgiving to those who confess.

2 | Witness Protection
If you find that you are a victim or a witness in any instance of a rule break, please report it to an available Angelocracy member at your earliest convenience regardless of how small the break may be!
Do not worry if you mistakenly report something - it is better to be safe than sorry and you will not get in trouble! We do not handle any report as “false” except in instances of proven perjury, as that would fall under harassment. Don't be shy, and don't be afraid. We are here to help you and we have the power to take action, as well as answer any questions you have. The Angelocracy are the "police" for this chat server and we are trained in depth to handle these types of situations.
To get help for anything at any time, click the "Admin" button, and type in a short message about your problem to any member that appears on the list. This member is part of our Angelocracy - our Administration team. Keep scrolling text history logs (the saved sections of the scroll where the event happened), record the time, date, and the room location. If there are no Admins online, please fill out a Problem Ticket (accessible from the Map interface) and it will be dealt with in a timely manner.

3 | "But I didn't know!"
Please note that ignorance is not an acceptable excuse on Baetyl. As soon as you have registered, you have agreed to be subject to these rules as well as our Terms of Service. Before you participate in this site, you must read them all the way through. Also bear in mind that you are responsible for whatever happens on your account so keep your password a secret. If someone uses your account and gets banned, this ban will count towards you in the future - no exceptions. This includes allowing others to use your email account(s) to gain access to Baetyl. Bans can be as short as 12 hours or as long as forever depending on your behavior and counting strikes. We typically go by the ban ladder, but some special people manage to earn permanent bans on their first or second try.

4 | Account Responsibility
You are responsible for everything that happens on your account, whether or not you did it. If someone accesses your account and they get a warning or a ban, it will count against you as though you did it. If a banned user accesses your account and gets it banned as well, it will stay banned at the same length of time as their account, even if it is a permanent ban.
If this should happen, you may submit a problem ticket to inform us that this is the case, and we will keep it in mind for future reference, so we don't base any possible future bans you may receive off of those previous infractions. Keep in mind that if you try to access the chat on another account, it will still be considered ban hopping, and will be enforced as per the rules above.

5 | Private Rooms
In your room, be it temporary or permanent, you are your own Alpha, and you can pick your own rating and you can kick out whoever you want for whatever reason. In your room, you are mostly out of the Angelocracy's jurisdiction except on very special circumstances. In someone else's room, you are subject to their laws. If you don't like someone's rules in their room, just go somewhere else. However, if they are violating one of the special consequence rules, such as a death threat, a hack threat, or propositioning a minor, you should report the violation to an Angelocracy member immediately.

6 | Offsite Engagement
Much like private rooms, offsite engagements are often out of our jurisdiction. If someone is spamming your Discord account direct messages, we cannot handle your report. However, we handle extreme special cases - this includes instances like minor propositioning and harassment to ensure your safety on our platform.

7 | Mini-modding
Our team is trained in depth to handle a wide variety of situations and we have extensive guidelines for our staff team when it comes to these incidents! We ask that you remain respectful to our team and upon witnessing a rule break - we stress reporting it to an administrator as opposed to taking it upon yourself to discipline a user. When encountering a situation that is a rule break, we ask that you keep your head down and report it immediately. Do not get involved - you could potentially get in trouble too!

The Rules of Baetyl
These are the essential laws of the land that you must abide by.

1. General Behavior and Conduct
This is general miscellaneous behavior that falls under the umbrella "general". These rules indicate general guidance of how a member is expected to act on Baetyl.
1.1 | Illegal Content
We ask that you remain vigilant on the laws of your country or state. We do not promote discussion of illegal content, such as saying you’re drinking underage or the consumption of marijuana while in an illegal country or state. Please note however that discussion of any substance is okay. You’re encouraged to discuss these substances in a constructive or informative manner, but we ask that you avoid any form of glorification or encouragement of others to participate.

1.2 | Cursing and Language
There is little to no moderation surrounding vulgar language. We do not tolerate slurs of any kind. Swearing at another user is allowed as long as all parties are aware it is in jest and consent.

1.3 | Links to Inappropriate Content
As a service to our users, the Baetyl chat software automatically converts web addresses that are typed in as "speech" into clickable links. These web links open up a new browser window and display the content found at that web address. These links are typically for sites that are external to this website and are thus not under the control of wunderwood LLC. Please note that wunderwood LLC is not responsible for any content displayed when a link takes you to an external website.
Any user who enters a link to a page with pornographic images, outwardly racist content, a "shock site", extreme violence, or a site designed to affect computer performance in a negative way, may be permanently banned without warning. Baetyl has a very small "black list" of websites, should any website on this list be posted in a public or private room an immediate system placed permanent ban will be placed on your account.

1.3.a | [16+]
Additionally, any user posting a link with excessive gore, sexually explicit content, or any otherwise offensive or inappropriate content, in a public room or in their sniff will receive appropriate action.

1.3.b | [18+]
In an 18+ room and under the assumption that the appropriate content warning is issued, we allow the following: artistic nudity, artwork that may depict sexual themes, and artwork that has light themes of gore.

1.3.c | [NSFW]
In a not safe for work room, we have very minimal moderation on the content that is linked. We stress that user discretion is advised.
We reserve the right to judge instances where inappropriate content is linked in public or private rooms on a case-by-case basis.

1.4 | Spam
Spamming the chat by sending numerous messages rapidly (known as flooding) is not allowed, as this is highly annoying to others of the community. We allow leniency regarding this rule - we understand that this can happen accidentally.

1.5 | Sexual Content
We have multiple variations of this rule to ensure the safety of our user base.

1.5.a | [16+]
Sexual slang is not to be heard at all in a sexual context, and minimally in general. Do not be graphic. "Cybering" or "yiffing" (role-playing sexual acts) is to be kept to a whisper or private rooms. Mimicking sexual positions with your poses is also severely frowned upon, and is not allowed in public rooms. There is some leeway here for humour (i.e "deez nutz" ) however, we ask you keep all conversations considerate of minors present. It is important that these jokes are not explicit and simply just a punchline.

1.5.b | [18+]
We are extremely lax with conversations in 18+ rooms regarding sexual content! However, we ask that there’s none of the following:
  • sexual conversations surrounding minors - fictional or real, animals, and individuals who cannot consent.
  • sexual jokes towards a user who has expressed discomfort.
  • topics that fetishize a race or group of people.
  • links to pornographic websites and content.
  • the usage of slurs.
1.5.c | [NSFW]
We consider NSFW rooms to be similar to a 18+ private room. We ask that there are no sexual jokes towards a user that does not consent, sexual content surrounding individuals that cannot consent or slurs. NSFW poses are allowed. Explicit discussions are allowed as long as they do not stumble into safety concerns. We stress that exposure to these topics must be met with a content warning and is completely at the user’s discretion.

1.6 | Roleplaying
We are not going to yell at you or discriminate against you for roleplaying on our platform! In fact, we have a lot of resources and encourage it on Baetyl. However, we ask that you keep in mind that not everyone wants to participate.
Asking members of our community repeatedly to participate constitutes harassment. This includes actively trying to roleplay with them despite them expressing discomfort, asking them to be your mate or inviting them to your roleplay group.
Having said that, if you are talking quietly with your roleplay partners or participating among yourselves in the roleplay - that is fine, as long as you do not disturb other users in this public room that are not interested.

2. Harassment
Baetyl tries its best to promote a safe space for everyone. This umbrella indicates rules that are in place to protect our community.
2.1 | General Harassment
"To irritate or torment persistently."
Harassment covers a broad area. Harassment can be (but is not limited to): cursing, name-calling, sexual innuendoes, sexual harassment, racial slurs, gay bashing, stalking, or anything else one person can do to annoy another. This also includes ignore evading. We provide some light leeway here if the users are jesting with each other.

Please note that this includes administrators of Baetyl as well. If you have a problem with how an Angelocracy member has handled a situation, or with some other aspect of their behavior, please fill out a Problem Ticket, submit your concerns to executive.Baetyl@gmail.com or get in contact with an Alpha.

2.2 | Soliciting
The soliciting of funds, favors or items (artwork, poses etc.) is not allowed. Begging in the public rooms and/or continuous and repeated solicitation is a type of harassment and could get you kicked from the chat.

Please note that this soliciting behavior also extends to outright scamming, such as fundraising for a cause but failing to uphold your promise of contributing to that purpose. We do not tolerate any form of taking advantage of kindness.

2.3 | Criticism
Baetyl will always encourage a safe space of our community to openly discuss how you feel. You will always have a voice to express any concerns you may have about everything and everything, experiences you've had or hope to have, and be generally open on our platform. Constructive criticism is welcome and encouraged to help Baetyl and Chatlands grow as a whole. Please note, however: we do not tolerate destructive criticism.

We encourage feedback and to those to point out our flaws, mistakes, and potential areas for improvement so that we may grow. However, constructive criticism and destructive criticism are extremely polarizing and we want to stress the differences between them:

Constructive criticism is criticism provided with the intent to help - it is delivered with a compassionate and helpful attitude. It is uplifting, specific, detailed, actionable and it provides suggestions, solutions and tips to improve. It focuses on shortcomings of the work or strengths and weaknesses of the creator or teams.

Destructive criticism is derogatory, hurtful, bashing, and in most cases: mocks failures and undermines successes. It is criticism delivered with the intent to harm, embarrass or insult someone. It is typically vague and non-specific and hopes to induce a reaction. This is a personal attack and focuses on the creator of the work, as opposed to the creation - and provides no feedback for improvements to be made.

Please note that Baetyl has a zero tolerance policy towards criticism that is delivered disrespectfully in any shape or form. Any attempt to destroy someone or something's prestige, reputation or self-esteem will be met with consequences against your account.

2.4 | Disturbing the Peace
Generally, "Disturbing the Peace" might mean many things, but on Baetyl it means behaving in ways that are deliberately upsetting or unsettling to people within the community, deliberately causing emotional grief, or trauma.
Now, this may not be a crime, but it is taken very seriously here. An example of "disturbing the peace" would be faked reports of deaths, suicides, car accidents, abductions, etc. So, don't go around telling deliberate lies in order to cause commotion. Not only is it rude, it may also get you banned.

3. Serious Conduct and Infractions
This umbrella details our most serious infractions that often lead to a permanent ban or have a unique way of being handled.
3.1 | Trolling
If you go on any Chatlands site for the purpose of harassing, disrupting, disturbing the peace, or trolling, the punishment is a minimum of a one week ban from ALL Chatlands sites, not just the one where the incident took place.
Any attempt to deliberately cause strife or to disrupt others on any Chatlands site is treated as an attack against all Chatlands sites.
3.2 | Ban Hopping
If you are currently banned from the chat site, and you try to access the chat on another account, this is called ban hopping. Doing so will cause that account to be banned as well.
Every time you do this, your ban time will increase. This can eventually lead to a permanent ban if you do it too many times.
3.3 | Threats
We have absolutely zero tolerance for any form of threat made against another individual or services.
  • Discussion of safety threats against others is not allowed. Talking about killing, how to kill, threatening someone with murder, or anything of that sort is not tolerated on our platform and will be met with serious consequences.
  • Discussion of safety threats against one’s self is not allowed. Talking about killing yourself, how to kill ones self, threatening suicide, discussing self harm, or anything of that sort is not tolerated on our platform. We want to look out for everyone, and these topics can be extremely triggering to those around you. Discussion of these topics will be met with resources that are incredibly useful. However, persistent discussion will result in contact with the authorities or Internet Service Provider (ISP) depending on the severity of your case.
  • Discussion of threats against Baetyl or other platforms is not allowed. Talking about hacking, sending viruses, sharing tricks or links, utilizing Chatlands bugs to have an advantage, or anything of the sort is not tolerated on our platform. We take threats against any service very seriously.
3.4 | Propositioning Minors
Baetyl makes every effort to keep its chat environment enjoyable and safe for all users that visit. Baetyl has a lot of younger members, and as such, WE WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY type of illegal enticement of minors AT ALL.

This includes but is not limited to:

Offering minors drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, sex, cybering, yiffing - this includes role play.

Important Information Regarding Propositions to a Minor:

(1) If you proposition a minor to participate in any illegal activity, you will be permanently banned from all Chatlands sites, not just this one. Instances of propositioning minors will be reported to the appropriate Internet Service Provider (ISP) and/or legal authority.

(2) As a reminder: by your act of participating in Baetyl.com, you have already agreed to abide by our rules and you have already agreed to our terms of use. Any evidence of unlawful acts taking place on Baetyl will be turned over to the appropriate ISP as well as possible law enforcement.

(3) If we have a reasonable suspicion that any involvement with a minor is unethical in our sole judgment, WE WILL BAN YOU, without warning, even if this situation occurs in a "role play" or "pretend" atmosphere.

Please Remember: The Baetyl administration cannot be everywhere at once, so it is up to YOU, as a user, to report any suspicious activity to the Baetyl administration team quickly. We will follow up all allegations as soon as we can, and we will take necessary and appropriate action as required.

Important note: If an incident happens outside of Baetyl, on systems over which Baetyl admins, and/or wunderwood LLC, have no control (for example: if the users are communicating via instant messengers such as MSN, AIM, YIM, or perhaps via an email messages on hotmail.com, gmail.com, etc), we aren't able to help. If you are a child and you have a problem, WE STRONGLY ADVISE that that you notify your parents or other responsible adult and get their help. They should contact those responsible for the service (such as AOL for AIM messenges, Microsoft for hotmail.com type emails, Google for gmail.com type emails, etc). Be sure to save all information and any history of the problem, as this will help the authorities as they work to solve this problem.

As always, WE STRONGLY ADVISE everyone: do not give out personal contact information such as phone numbers, street address, real life names or the name of your school, any information that helps someone else you met online locate you in real life. No exceptions.
3.5 | Art Theft
Please see the Art FAQ for further explanation. Art Theft is taken very seriously on Baetyl.
This includes using a pose on this chat when the artist has made it public they do not wish their work to be used here, modifying poses that the artist has asked not to be messed with, uploading work that is not your own without the artist's permission, and more.
If you ever have a question regarding the rights of a pose, please contact a member of the Art Staff.

Underdog's Problem Solving Strategies for Baetyl

"I want to take a minute to explain how I expect members of Baetyl to approach problems with another user, whether that other user is a Subordinate, Gamma, Beta or Alpha... The goal is to try and keep the public forums clear of the acrimony that plagued the previous two incarnations of Baetyl. I want to make these suggestions:

"1. When you have a problem with some other user, first you need to send a message to that person explaining yourself. Avoid sarcasm or other things that would add more "heat than light". State your case plainly and politely. If someone has done you an injustice, make it clear why you feel that way, but do not make things more complicated by attacking back. Resist the temptation to "tell them off". Try to resolve the problem in a private message.

"2. If you are unable to resolve the problem by working directly with the other person, you should escalate it to someone of higher rank. So, for example, if you are a Subordinate and you are having problems with another Subordinate, send a private message to a Gamma about it, or speak with them privately.

"3. If escalating to the next level doesn't work, continue to escalate. There's no reason why you have to go through each level, but try to if you can. If all else fails, please do not hesitate to contact me (or another Alpha) directly about problems with an administrator. Be aware that I want to think highly of my team, but that doesn't mean that they are infallible.

"4. The main goal is to try to resolve problems without turning it into a public argument. For what it's worth, any time that I see a PUBLIC discussion of some problem that should have been handled in PRIVATE, I tend to be strongly biased against the public debate. So, it serves your purpose to avoid airing "dirty laundry" in public. This means, be discreet and private. PM the Alphas, rather than post a negative topic.

"5. If all else fails, and you have moved up the ladder and STILL don't have a fair resolution, then by all means you are free to take it public. You could have done it all along, of course. But keep in mind that I am not going to cave in to mob rule. I am the Alpha at Baetyl. What I say is final. I want to keep people happy, but I am going to do what I feel is right, regardless of any public vote.

"I believe that one of the root causes of the collapse of the previous two incarnations of Baetyl had to do with arguments on public forums. I do not want to eliminate those, but I want them to be a last resort. Thanks for helping me reach that goal."
